A COMEDY ABOUT HELLISH TRAPS
Man is a sinful creature and they know it well in the Hell. The Devil makes a pact with seven Vices (or Sins if you wish) and together they set off to the earth to lure people into the snares of Pride, Greed, Gluttony, Adultery, Envy, Anger and Idleness. That they are successful in their efforts we do not need to emphasize. A young man Labyrinth longing to gratify his desires sells his soul to the Devil. However, the powers of Heaven will not leave it at that and they decide to fight with the Devil for the men’s souls...
“We humbly ask for quiet patience as well as close attention. When we have learned philosophy we will tell the gentlemen something sharp and witty. Should you not like it, please do not disparage it. Do you know better? Then do it yourself.”
The excerpt from the new play tells us how the characters speak. The earthy folk language of the Baroque period is surprisingly fresh and although it uses some spicy words without scruple they organically fit in with the plot.
You will hear many period songs and because we talk of vices the songs are equally provocative, even rude at times, but always amusing. They have been preserved thanks to the knight Jan Jeník of Bratřice and Karel Jaromír Erben. They will be sung by the actors accompanied by a live band.
The
comedy is directed by Ondrej Spišák (those of you who remember “Three Men on the Bummel” know that he is a master of comedy); the set and costumes designer is Marta Roszkopfová. The cast features: Veronika Forejtová, Tomáš Jirman, Vladimír Polák, Anna Cónová, Pavlína Kafková, Renáta Klemensová, Lada Bělašková, Jiří Sedláček, František Večeřa and David Viktora.
