The most popular Verdi’s opera again on the Ostrava’s stage.
“Va, pensiero, sull'ali dorate” (“Fly, thought, on golden wings...”) – who would not know the famous chorus that became a liberation song sung all over Italy at the time of the premiere? The popularity of the opera was mainly achieved by the story about the liberation of Jews from Babylonian captivity which resonated with the desire of the Italian nation for liberation from the Austrian and Habsburg power and for the unification of Italy. Today the opera is popular for its vivid musical depiction of the biblical story.
