PARDON MY ENGLISH

Musical comedy by George Gershwin
Pardon My English is one of the musical comedies by George Gershwin from 1933. It is set in Dresden at the time of Prohibition satirizing this era. The main character Golo Schmidt, who is in love with Gita Gobel, opens Club 21. Golo is hit by a car and knocked unconscious. When he comes round in the house of the Police Commissioner Bauer he does not remember anything and believes he is someone else. He is convinced that he is Michael Bramleigh, a member of British society. He falls in love with Bauer’s daughter Ilse and plans to marry her. Based on Golo’s dual personality a lot of comical situations happen which often border on the absurd.
