Opera Europa

Opera Europa is the leading service organisation for professional opera companies and opera festivals throughout Europe.  It currently serves 135 member companies from 36 different countries. Its main office is in Brussels, where it is registered as a cultural organization in compliance with Belgian law. Its governing Board is made up of 15 members chosen from the general membership and elected for 3 year terms.  An executive Director, a Manager and two Coordinators are responsible for managing the organization and for responding to members’ needs.

Conferences open to the general membership take place at least twice a year in alternating member cities.  Conference programmes focus on topics and developments of current practical interest, such as maximizing income, audience development, new technologies and new media, human resources, fundraising.

International conference Opera Europa - autumn 2014

The Opera Europa organization, which unifices 135 theatres and music festivals from 36 countries, has chosen on the basis of the application form The National Theatre Brno and The National Moravian-Silesian Theatre as organizer of the prestigious international conference Opera Europa – Autumn 2014 (20th – 23.11. 2014).

Year 2014 is declared as the Year of Czech music 2014 and so National Theatre in Brno and the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre sought to organize the Autumn Conference 2014. September 2013 sat in the council of Opera Europa and selected on the basis of a request from among many applicants (eg the applicant was Riga, which will be The European Capital of Culture 2014) just Brno and Ostrava. We are very honored about the decision and we hope that the conference will promote international significance of Czech music and Czech composers.
The conference program.
 
This Conference is attended by 350 guests from all continents of the world (across theatrical professions). Opening of the conference is always carried out in the presence of European and domestic policies (eg at a conference in Vienna was opening statement José Manuel Barroso - President of the European Commission). The conference is invited wide range of experts, artists and students working in the field of musical theatre. The range of speakers is made up of leaders in their field. The conference is always in the viewfinder major European media.
 
The topic of this conference is “The year of Czech music” which should support the rumour of Czech music and Czech composers. Our goal is to put the conference to the top of conferences, which will be held within the frame of the “Year of Czech music”. Exclusiveness of this venue is given by compilation of all of conference participants. The conference offers a big number of professionals of all kinds of important, mostly European theatres and festivals. 
 
Program of the conference will be held in the spirit of Czech music, especially with the emphasis on the anniversary of Janacek, Smetana and Martinu. The program is usually divided into two parts, the daily lectures and evening performances.
 
Another important project organized in the framework of Opera Europa is the European Opera Days.
