Stage director Jakub Šmíd Till the Stars Come Down is a vibrant, moving, and sharply funny play by British playwright Beth Steel. It premiered at London’s National Theatre in January 2024 and, following its success, transferred to the West End’s Theatre Royal Haymarket in summer 2025. The play was nominated for the 2024 Laurence Olivier Awards, including Best New Play, and has won acclaim from critics and audiences alike for its energy, emotional depth, and unmistakably human insight. The story unfolds over the course of one hot summer day at the wedding of Sylvia and Marek in a former mining town now marked by industrial decline. Family and friends have gathered to celebrate, but as the vodka flows and the dancing gathers pace, old loves, buried desires, long-held frustrations, and closely guarded secrets begin to surface. When past and future collide at a wedding, the dance floor starts to crack beneath everyone’s feet. Will it hold until the stars come down? Premiere on 15 May 2027 at the Antonín Dvořák Theatre |
