PAULÍNA ŠMATLÁKOVÁ - BIOGRAPHY

She comes from Bratislava, Slovakia. Her studies began at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and continued at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. She graduated with a Bachelor degree in Contemporary Dance. During freelancing in London Paulína worked as a choreographer and a performer in an interdisciplinary group-devised physical theatre project, Lingering Games, performed in Taipei, Taiwan.

Between 2017 and 2020 she was a full-time dancer with Holstebro Dansekompagni in Denmark, where she worked with choreographers such as Ben Wright, Jason Mabana, Marie Brolin-Tani and Tina Tarpgaard. In Slovakia she has been collaborating as a co-creator and performer with a collective TRAKT and a Slovak choreographer Radoslav Piovarči (2021) as well as with choreographer Lucia Holinová (2023). In 2021 Paulína worked as a performer and actor in two different film productions – a feature film ZENITH, choreographed by Anton Lachký, and an Opera movie choreographed by Marie Brolin-Tani. One of her most recent experiences includes working as a rehearsal director, choreographer’s assistant and a tour manager in Holstebro Dansekompagni in Denmark.

Since 2022 Paulína has been a performer with BURKICOM, under the artistic leadership of Jana Burkiewiczová. They have worked together in the award-winning performance Ostrov! (Island!) and a christmas production Louskáček (Nutcracker), dedicated mainly to the young audience. Paulína is currently working, teaching and actively performing as a freelance dance artist in Denmark, Slovakia and Czech Republic.
