ORIÓN PICÓ PLAJA - BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1996 in Tarragona, Spain, Orión received his dance training at the Centro Autorizado de Grado Profesional de Danza Artemis (2009–2014). He developed his technique under the guidance of renowned teachers such as Marie Helen Levan, Rady Miniakmetov, and Artemis Plaja.

During his studies, Orión competed successfully at both national and international competitions, earning 3rd place in the pas de deux category at the Youth America Grand Prix in Paris; 2nd and two 3rd prizes as a soloist at Tanzolymp Berlin; 2nd place as a soloist, 1st place in the group category, and the Audience Award at the International Dance Competition in Riba-roja de Túria (Spain). He also received 1st prize and the Audience Award at the International Roseta Mauri Competition in Reus.

Immediately after graduating, Orión began his freelance career, performing at international gala events alongside renowned stars and appearing on prestigious stages, including the Acropolis in Nice and the Teatro Fernán Gómez in Madrid. In 2017, he took part in the Italian television competition Amici 17.

Beyond his stage career, Orión has been an active member of SIPBE since 2013. Between 2015 and 2019, he taught classical ballet at the Artemis Dansa school. Orión has also contributed to organizing competitions and dance events and collaborated with the delegates of Catalan expat dancers, promoting Catalan dance culture internationally.

In the 2024–2025 season, Orión was a soloist with Balletto del Sud in Lecce, Italy, under the direction of choreographer Fredy Franzutti. His repertoire there included Ivan in The Firebird, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, and the Elegant Man in Gaîté Parisienne, as well as Albrecht in Giselle and Actaeon in Diana and Actaeon.

Since the 2025/2026 season, he has been a member of NDM Ballet as a corps de ballet dancer with soloist obligations.
