PEER GYNT
Premiere May 22, 2025, 6.30 PM - Antonín Dvořák Theatre
A great journey of self-discovery
Libretto after Henrik Ibsen’s drama Young Peer escapes from everyday worries into a fantasy world where he can be a hero, a general, a ruler, or everything else he desires to be. But who is he? He does not conquer obstacles of life, he circumvents them. He leaves all hardships behind. Parched dessert and stormy sea replaced fjords and troll caves. How far must one run away to realise he has nothing left? Peer Gynt is deeply tied with the tradition of Ostrava ballet. The production by the Latvian choreographer Alexandr Lemberg, with Petr Koželuh and Richard Böhm alternating as the leading character, became a sensation of the 1973/1974 season. In the new production, the Belgian choreographer Jeroen Verbruggen, a fan of this work, is going to take us again on young Peer’s journey in his quest for fortune. Premieres on 22 and 24 May 2025 at the Antonín Dvořák Theatre |
