A Canadian-German choreographer, dancer, and artistic director of Gauthier Dance / Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart, one of the most successful contemporary dance ensembles in Germany. Founded by Gauthier in 2007 after the end of his career as a principal dancer with the Stuttgart Ballet, the company has gradually grown to include 16 permanent dancers. With Gauthier Dance, he has received numerous awards, including the German Theatre Prize Der Faust in 2011 and 2013. In addition, Gauthier was awarded the German Dance Prize (Deutscher Tanzpreis) for choreography in 2011.

His choreographic works form part of the repertoires of leading international ballet companies such as Staatsballett Berlin, Stuttgart Ballet, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Het Nationale Ballet Amsterdam, and Ballet Nacional de Cuba. Among his best-known choreographies are Ballet 101, Ballet 102, and ABC, which have become popular pieces at international dance galas. In recent years, he has created, for example, the duet Les Adieux for Ukrainian-German ballerina Iana Salenko and her husband, German dancer Marian Walter (Berlin, 2023), as well as the choreography Night on the Bare Mountain for the Bavarian Junior Ballet (Munich, 2024).

Gauthier collaborates with artists across a wide range of genres. He has created choreographies for concert performances by musicians such as Cro, Philipp Poisel, and Marianne Rosenberg, contributed to the film Mackie Messer – Brecht’s Threepenny Film (2018), and worked on the music and dance show ARISE at the Friedrichstadt-Palast in Berlin (2021). In December 2023, he made his directorial debut with the production La Fest at the Stuttgart State Opera.

Since 2022, he has also been working as a host and dance expert for the television series Dance Around the World on SWR, which explores dance scenes in cities including Tel Aviv, St Petersburg, Amsterdam, London, Havana, and Montreal.

He is a recipient of the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg and a member of the board of trustees of the Baden-Württemberg Alzheimer’s Foundation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his project The Dying Swans provided employment opportunities for dozens of artists, while his long-term initiative Gauthier Dance Mobile brings contemporary dance to schools, hospitals, and social care institutions.
