| Stage director Martin Františák Spanish writer Federico García Lorca presents a story set in the rural environment. Countryside, where everyone knows that your family name carries local memories and ancient grievances. Place where the social layering is manipulated by marriages that everyone honours and are usually set in order to unite in the most effective way family names and lands. But what happens if spontaneous, passionate love starts bubbling through this strict tradition-bound environment? Love of people with family names whose binding is forbidden? What is better—a rational honour wedding which brings peace and satisfaction to everyone or to follow your wildly beating heart in love? The author created a beautiful lyrical drama full of symbols, tense relationships, and passion; the words running like a horse galloping towards the desirable ending. And a grape-harvesting knife can slash veins and end the life of a strong man. After the bloody violence, all that’s left are grieving mothers in black and hatred between families. The Blood wedding was a great success of the Jiří Myron Theatre in 2002. Now, after 25 years, it returns refreshed and interpreted by stage director Martin Františák.
