MIYU KITABATAKE - BIOGRAPHY

Miyu Kitabatake was born in Tokyo, Japan. From 2019 to 2020, she studied at the Akademie des Tanzes in Mannheim, and from 2020 to 2022 she completed the Noja-Nebyla STAGE Education programme in Vienna.

In 2022, she was engaged by the Ljubljana Opera House, where she performed in Le Corsaire, choreographed by José Martínez. That same year, she joined the Ballet of the National Theatre Košice as a soloist. In Košice, she became a distinctive interpreter of Ondrej Šoth’s choreographies and worked with a number of major figures in world choreography, including Vladimir Malakhov, Jiří Bubeníček, Giorgio Madia, Denis Matvienko, and Akram Khan.

She has danced a range of key roles in both classical and contemporary repertoire - Odette/Odile, the Neapolitan Princess, the Pas de trois, and the Cygnets in Vladimir Malakhov’s Swan Lake; Clara, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Pastorale in Ondrej Šoth’s The Nutcracker; the Canary Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty choreographed by Mikhail Novikov and Ondrej Šoth; Amour and the Queen of the Dryads in Denis Matvienko’s Don Quixote; the title duet in Akram Khan’s Dust; roles in Jiří Bubeníček’s The Trial; and in Giorgio Madia’s The Wizard of Oz. Her repertoire also includes a number of Ondrej Šoth’s productions - Nureyev, The Little Prince, Carmen, Jánošík, and M. R. Štefánik.

She is a laureate of several international ballet competitions. In 2022, she won 1st prize at the European Ballet Grand Prix in Vienna. She has also won 1st prize at the NAMUE Ballet Competition (2019), the Victoire Ballet Competition (2019), and the Espoire Ballet Competition (2017) in Japan.

Since the 2026/2027 season, Miyu Kitabatake has been a soloist with NDM Ballet.
