After 12 years the fundamental piece of world ballet literature returns to the ballet company of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre – Giselle by composer Adolph Adam. The librettist Théophile Gautier was inspired by a Slavonic legend about unmarried girls who died before wedding and transformed into nymphs they appear to passengers in the night to lead them into perdition. The premiere of this ballet in two acts built in the spirit of romantic esthetics, on the contrast of human and supernatural world (country environment changes into mystical atmosphere of night forest) was in Paris in 1841. While most of the ballet from the first half of the 19. have been forgotten, Giselle remains already 170 years lively and inspiring.
