QUEEN ELIZABETH I

Moor Mother

Music-theatrical performance, 2020

logoInformace

Queen Elizabeth I (2019–2020)
For her first chamber opera (NODO 2020 commission), Moor Mother (Camae Ayewa) chose as her main character one of the most successful world rulers, the controversial figure Queen Elizabeth I (1533–1603; reigned 1558–1603) of England. In her composition, which is still in the process of being created, Moor Mother deals with the last hours of Elizabeth, who contemplates and reflects with melancholy and unhappiness on various events during her life, all the thoughts that have been passing through her mind in the last hours, as she is leaving this world. The music is open, harsh and poetically original. Besides the author, the performers will be Moor Mother’s three American collaborators, the chamber choir Canticum Ostrava and Ostravská banda.
