The year 2024 commemorates 200 years since the birth of Czech composer Bedřich Smetana (1824–1884), whilst also marking the 140th anniversary of his death. The National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in cooperation with the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava will commemorate these anniversaries by staging the Smetana Opera Cycle Ostrava 2024. After more than thirty years, we are the only opera house in the world that stages own productions of all 8 completed operas by Bedřich Smetana.

THE COMPLETE SMETANA OPERA CYCLE OSTRAVA 2024 WILL BE PERFORMED TWICE:

The first run begins on 2 March 2024—Bedřich Smetana’s birthday—with The Brandenburgers in Bohemia and will be chronologically ordered. Libuše, however, will be an exception and close the first cycle on 10 March 2024.

The second run begins on 4 May 2024 with The Brandenburgers in Bohemia and will be chronologically ordered. Same as in March, Libuše will close the cycle’s repetition on Smetana’s 140th anniversary of death on 12 May 2024.
