The successful operetta writers Turai and Gal have just boarded the ocean liner together with the composer Adam, who seems to have dropped out of the sketch The Ministry of Silly Talks. Together with actors Natasha and Ivor, they have just a few days to write and rehearse their latest play. It doesn’t matter if they don't have a beginning or an end yet. And probably no middle. But more than the stormy seas, it is stormy relationships that disrupt the preparations for the premiere indeed. And so does the steward Dvornichek, a bit of a fool and a bit of a genius. In his free adaptation of Hungarian playwright Ferenc Molnár's comedy The Play at the Castle, Stoppard blends fiction and reality and uses brilliant dialogue to poke fun at operetta clichés and theatre texts.
