JANA TOMSOVÁ - BIOGRAPHY

A dancer, pedagogue, motion assistant, choreographer and ballet director was born in 1959 in Jeseník. Between 1974 and 1978, she studied classical dance at the State conservatory in Ostrava. Between 2007 and 2012, Jana Tomsová studied to be a pedagogue of classical and folk dance at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. During her studies at the conservatory, she was already engaged in the ballet company of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre where she started working after graduation. In 2010, she decided to finish her dancing career and start the career as a ballet master in the operetta/musical company in the same theatre. She has already made some choreography for this company in 1998-2001 and it was for productions such as The Proud Princess, Pearls of the Virgin Seraphim and The Cousin from Batavia. In the past, she also directed the ballet production The Wayward Daughter (2006) in the Silesian Theater Opava. Currently, she has participated as an assistant of the choreographer in all productions of the operetta/musical company in the National Moravian-Sileasian Theatre, namely A Night at Karlstein, Polish Blood, The Phantom of London, The Gipsy Princess, The Beautiful Helen, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat or Evita. While doing her theatre career, she has taught physical preparation at the Janáček Conservatory and Grammar School in Ostrava and she has also made choreography for the local choir’s performances. Since 2009, she has taught classical and folk dance in the Opera studio at the Faculty of  Fine Arts, University of Ostrava where she also takes part in preparation of public performances.
