logoInformace

Film-opera in three acts with prologue and epilogue from 1929
Libretto by Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes (1884–1974)
Czech translation by Václav Renč (1911–1973)

Only the third production of this opera in the Czech Republic
Performed in a Czech translation with Czech subtitles

Martinu wrote the Three Wishes in the fall of the twenties of the 20th century and under the influence of “jazz intoxication" he chose quite an unconventional instrumentation (symphonic orchestra with piano, two saxophones, jazz flute, flexatone, banjo and accordion) and, moreover, tried to connect the opera to the medium of silent film.  The form of a “theatre within theatre" is transformed into a film shooting the provocative Dadaist story of a fairy fulfilling the three wishes of an ageing married couple. What else could you ask for than wealth, youth and love...

Performed in the Czech language

The project is kindly supported by the Bohuslav Martinu Foundation
