The Ostrava Days Festival is a unique opportunity to discover authentic and uncompromising works of the 20th and 21st centuries. It takes place every two years. The 13th biennial of the festival will be held from 21 to 31 August 2025!
The Ostrava Days focuses on contemporary music of an avant-garde, experimental, and risky nature. The festival is preceded by the Institute, which allows young composers to work with world-famous figures of contemporary music for three weeks and to be present at rehearsals of their own compositions. The Ostrava Days festival introduces the public to the works (mostly orchestral) that have not yet been performed in the Czech Republic or have their world premiere at the festival. Compositions are studied directly on site in the last two weeks of August by Ostravská banda, Ostrava New Orchestra, and the Canticum Ostrava choir, along with numerous top-class ensembles, soloists, and conductors.
The event is organised by the Ostrava Centre for New Music in cooperation with the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre. The event is a part of the international festival of new and experimental music Ostrava Days.
