The enfant terrible of the French literature and a father of pataphysics with his bizarre and comic play Ubu Roi has significantly overturned the aesthetics of modern drama and theatre. It is precisely today when this hundred plus year old pun becomes strangely authentic. Father Ubu and his life partner Mother Ubu are two sovereign cads who rose to power. This couple living in the sewers starts their obscurely ironic game revealing the mechanisms of power and the greed of their usurpers. The journey of Father and Mother Ubu to the throne, their ruling and their downfall back to the sewers is a peculiar allegory of today’s society which exposes its bluntly scurrilous face that is more and more apparent even beneath the mask of political correctness.
