Opera in two acts from 1835. Libretto: Giuseppe Bardari based on the Italian translation of the drama with the same name by Friedrich Schiller (1759-1850) from 1800.

Putting on Anne Boleyn in 2013 started off a three-part series of operatic pieces about lives and fates of British female rulers from the pen of bel-canto composer Gaetano Donizetti.

The opera tells a story of a fight between the authoritative English queen Elizabeth I of the Tudor dynasty and the vivacious Queen of Scots, whose life is ended on the scaffold. The opera is literally intertwined with effective arias and dramatic situations. Nevertheless, the historical fact remains - the two queens actually never met.
