In this forested regions wrinkled by mountains like a piece of paper that we are about to throw in the stove, there are still stories alive that make us smile foolishly only because they do not happen anymore. In this region of hills on hills and ravines in ravines where springs are born and old maple trees die in the decay of the dusk, there are magical places which no deer nor bear nor man ever left. There God still lives. (Ivan Olbracht)To stage this production with new actors and a new approach to the stage design and music, the director Peter Gábor invited several people: Jan Štěpánek (stage set), Katarína Holková (costumes), Vlastík Šmída (music rendition), Jiří Šimáček (accompaniment) and Jaroslav Moravčík (choreography). In the leading role of Nikola Šuhaj the bandit you can see Igor Orozovič accompanied by other members of the drama ensemble.

From the history:

The story is based on the novel by Ivan Olbracht who became famous for his exploratory journey to Carpathian Ruthenia. In the report Bandits he described banditry in this area. In the first half of the 1930s Olbracht lived in Koločava. He fell in love with the local area and its heroes who became alive in songs and legends.

Milan Uhde and Miloš Štědroň made an adaptation of Olbracht’s Nikola Šuhaj the Bandit and wrote Ballad for a Bandit for the Goose on a String Theatre. After its golden era in the 1970s the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre was the first to stage this musical after the Velvet Revolution.
