PAVLÍNA KAFKOVÁ - BIOGRAPHY

Pavlína Kafková was born at the foothills of the Beskydy Mountains where she also spent her happy childhood. She studied at a six year conservatory in Ostrava and her teachers were Otakar Prajzner and Bedřich Jansa. During her studies she guest-starred at the theatres in Ostrava and Opava. Her professional career started in Český Těšín where she spent three years and performed numerous great roles. Her favourite role was Emily in Our Town. Director Michael Tarant invited her to join the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre drama company in 1991. During her career she was offered to perform in various theatres, for example in Cheb, Brno, or Prague (Komedie Theatre). But she has always decided to stay in Ostrava, certainly for the fact that the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre is a quality theatre and has a great acting ensemble. Since then, she has performed many interesting roles, for example:

Deák), Anina (The Sisters, or Casanova in Spa, directed by R. Lipus), Rose (Dancing at Lughnasa, directed by P. Gábor), Checa (The Chioggia Scuffles, directed by J. Deák), Essie (The Devil’s Disciple, directed by J. Deák), Bianca (The Taming of the Shrew, directed by J. Deák), (Love in the Crimea, directed by J. Šimák), Olivia (Twelfth Night, directed by M. Lang), Mrs. Cheveley (An Ideal Husband, directed by J. Klimsza), Linda Swan (Cash on Delivery, directed by R. Grossmann), and others.

 

She also loves the role of Pamina at the opera company (spoken part in The Magic Flute, directed by L. Golat). She was a language consultant for the L. Janáček’s opera Jenůfa, directed by M. Tarant.

 

The performance of Nurse Ratched (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) earned her a wider nomination for the Alfréd Radok Awards.

She was deeply influenced by F. Čech in Těšín, J. Deák, M. Tarant, R. Lipus and J. Klimsza. She is happy to work for TV Noe, studio TELEPACE (where she has been teaching young reporters to speak and act correctly), she has dubbed numerous roles, worked on the production of documentaries, presented some programmes on TV Noe (especially the live broadcasts).

 

As for the TV production, she has worked with numerous directors, for example Dušan Klein, Jiří Chlumský, Zdeněk Zelenka, Viktor Polesný, Ondřej Kepka, Ivo Kosek, Eva Sadková, Zdeněk Kaloč, Jiří Svoboda, Antonín Moskalyk, Juraj Deák, and others. 

There are many everyday routines that make her happy - warm tea in a huge mug, hot soup, summer day, fruits. She is a chocoholic and ice cream with hot raspberries addict but she does not even try to fight it.

 

Horse riding, bikram yoga, painting when listening to music, reading encyclopedias and books, looking at the maps (both historical and new ones) - all these things are her favourite ways of relaxing. She likes driving a car and travelling. She would like to meet with Charles IV, Mother Teresa and Tomáš Halík. She loves and admires opera! She speaks Italian and English. One day she would like to move to Australia.

 

She really likes her profession and LOVES her family.
