The creators of ballet usually tend to choose romantic stories for their oeuvres, stories where the heroes experience fatalist love while also battling hostility, betrayal and intrigue, all of which can be found in abundance in Dumas’ classic novel. No wonder this famous story has previously been produced on Ostrava’s stage. It was in 1988 that this dance show was performed here for the very first time. The troupe, involved in the recent ballet performance of the Three Musketeers, chose to set it to brand new music (by Jan Kučera). The choreography, by the Canadian author Paul Chalmer, is also entirely new and tailor-made for our theatre. However, the form of the plot seems to knowingly be referring back to the nostalgic atmosphere of the famous romantic story and its original setting.
