This musical comedy which won five 1951 Tony Awards had its Czech premiere in Ostrava in May 2012. The authors of the libretto use distinctive irony to show the bizarre life of a group of gamblers in contrast to the world of the Salvation Army and especially its charming female members. All this is the setting for stories of true love which end with reformed sinners (?) and two (!) weddings.

From the history:

Although Frank Loesser is one of the best authors of the American musical comedy of the 20th century who writes his own music and lyrics, in the Czech Republic he is not very known yet. He excellently switches to different musical styles and his language is refined, playful and witty. In his Guys and Dolls (premiered in Broadway in 1950) he reached a complete mastery of musical comedy. The libretto was written by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows based on stories by Damon Runyon. Many revivals of Guys and Dolls have been staged all over the world and in 1955 a successful film version of the musical was released, starring Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra.
