Chicago of the United States in the 1920s: a hotbed of crime and sensational journalism. Cabaret star Velma Kelly and chorus girl Roxie Hart are both on trial for the murder of their partners. They must escape the death penalty at all costs! They enlist the services of a hardened lawyer Billy Flynn, who knows that it's not the truth but the opinion of the press and the public that counts in the verdict.
The musical, written by the duo John Kander and Fred Ebb and the legendary jazz choreographer Bob Fosse, is one of Broadway's most successful titles ever. It continues to attract audiences around the world today with its famous melodies and timeless satirical story. It returns to Ostrava after more than thirty years while at the same time exactly one hundred years since the actual trials that inspired its story.
